Second Guest Free Cruise Offers
The deepest half-price offer — and the charges that remain.
Get a Real Cruise PriceA second guest free cruise is the most generous form of the half-price idea: the first guest pays the cruise fare, the second guest pays nothing for theirs. It is a real saving. It is still not a free ticket.
What “Free” Covers
Covered
The second guest’s cruise fare, when the first guest pays full fare in the same cabin.
Still charged
The second guest’s taxes, fees and port expenses, and usually daily gratuities.
Watch for
Fare-type limits, select sailings, and whether the first guest’s fare is higher than on other dates.
On the worked example on our math page, a free second fare cut the cabin total by about 42%, not 50%, because the per-guest charges stayed. Add gratuities and the share falls further.

Cruises Second Person Free vs 50% Off
Offers for cruises second person free and offers for 50% off the second guest sit on the same scale; the free version is simply a deeper cut on the same fare. Lines rotate between them, and between second-guest offers and cuts for every guest. Which is better for you depends on the starting fare: a free second guest on an expensive date can cost more than a 30% discount for both guests on a cheaper week. Compare totals, not labels.

Who Second Guest Offers Suit
- Couples and friends sharing a cabin — the obvious winners.
- Parent and adult child — check whether the second guest must be an adult or can be a child.
- Families of three or four — look at how the offer treats guests three and four; Free Cruise Rewards covers third and fourth guest offers.
- Solo travelers — not helped; Sailing Single covers solo fares instead.
If you are travelling as a group of several cabins, ask whether the second-guest offer or a group rate gives the lower total; it is not always the same answer. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise can price both.
Second Guest Free Cruise: FAQ
If the second guest is free, what does the second guest still pay?
Normally that guest’s taxes, fees and port expenses, plus daily gratuities and anything bought on board. On short sailings those charges can be a noticeable amount.
Can the second guest be a friend rather than a partner?
Usually yes. Offers are written around two guests in the same cabin, not a relationship. Check the terms for age rules, such as whether the second guest must be an adult.
What if I travel alone?
A second-guest offer does not help a solo booking. Look for single-occupancy fares, studio cabins and reduced single supplements; our sister site Sailing Single covers them.
Questions to Ask Before You Book a Second Guest Offer
Ask whether the first guest’s fare on the offer sailing is the same as it was before the promotion began, or whether a different date without the offer comes out cheaper in total. Ask whether the offer applies to every cabin category or only some, and whether upgrading to a balcony keeps the discount. Ask what happens if the second guest has to cancel: some offers recalculate the fare for the remaining guest, which can remove the saving. Finally, ask whether the offer can sit alongside a past-guest or resident rate. Clear answers to those four questions tell you what a second guest deal is really worth.
